Today's thoughts: Humans and 'Humanity'

  • as i sit here listening to my moms old Legend album that i dug up, right next to the steely dan and Fleetwood Mac (hehe) i start to think about the message that Bob Marley spread with his music. It was love. Pure and unrequitable love, to him it didnt matter about black, white, or asian, only about the love, and the love he had for his god. He is one of the few people who truely show "Humanity". While we are all human (to mine and many a fur's discomfort), few of us actually have what we have come to describe as 'Humanity'. to be a model of our species and how we should supposedly act. To completely supress the ID for the better of others and yourself. Bob Marley, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Gandhi, and those that i cannot think of at the moment (i appologize to them) show that humanity. They fought, sang, and spoke for their beliefs, and for others. While they are VERY different individuals, they have lived on as symbols. Che a symbol of revolution, wich is a wonderful thing to be, but he was also a loving father, doctor, and soldier. he risked his life to liberate a country that was not even his own, and gave his life attempting to free another (wich still remains one of the most destitute countries in the world). Ghandi was an advocate of peace and freedom, showing that no matter where you are from, you are still a person and you deserve as much as anyone else. and Bob of course was all about the love, no matter your race, sexual preference, gender, or religion. He forgave those who did him wrong and loved us all unconditionally, wich is more than most of us could hope to say bout ourselves. though many just see him as a symbol for stoners and completely ignor his message, as it seems to be in our nature to hate each other with a form of passion that seems to surpass even its intimate counterpart... These people had true 'humanity' their love, devotion, and drive for what they thought was right. though it may seem romanticized and foolish to adhere to such doctrines as these men did, it is...admirable none the less to know that they had such a dedication to others, it makes me a bit happier to be part of this species (though we still are but rats in the scheme of things, seriously the number of things in common are astounding.)
