  I generally feel more comfortable starting topics when there are stickies detailing exactly what kinds of things go in each forum, and the category-specific rules. But that's just me.

  Yes, Moly! Only when you enter a forum do you find out what it's about (titles not enough for new or casual members) and posts don't have relevance tags.

  Ah, this is where good Moderators come in :) Anything posted in an incorrect area should be modded to the right board.
  
  However, Molybdenum Qvist and Foxboy have good points and I think it would be a good development to give the forum titles a bit of a boost with a brief description of what is likely to be found in, or permitted, on each board (saves on excessive modding once things get up and pouncing).
  
  Regarding cleaning up the forums so the member numbers are more representative of the actual active posters - this is a tricky one. You want to give the impression that you have a busy active forum by keeping the high subscription numbers both active and inactive, which in turn attracts guests come new members, but you don't want the guests to have no one to communicate with once they get a claw in the door.
  
  Culling would seem an obvious answer, except that you may in turn be reducing the lure of the numbers that got the new members here in the first place.
  
  Its a fine balance, one I have found myself in, and a decision I don't envy, because it doesn't matter what you do ultimately it results in stick and no one wants to end up as a rug(!)

  Update: revised forums are coming...eventually... it got put into Trun's lazy pile. So... at least he's gonna do it eventually.
  
  Not much else I can do about that though.

  well, since i joined FN (two sites ago? i really can't remember), i wasn't on almost at all during the 'ning' site.

  
  

  I've been more active with my local fur's (MiFur) IRL & OL, and honestly, i kinda didn't feel like rebuilding my profile here (for a second/third time) for a while.

  shoot yet another e-mail out stating that unless you verify (within say, 3 months? or 11/11/11? :D) that you're still active[ish], your gettin' purged from the member database.

  Yeah, I think spiffing up the forums a bit would help. I mean, they should still stay nice and clean looking, but they look a little too... boring. :v I mean the main forum index, it's just barren looking.
  
  And maybe some community events on the forums, or something, idk. :u

  Unfortunately my powers are limited here, I've got no control over how the forums look. Like I said, it got stuck in Trun's "lazy pile" so, hopefully the revision I suggested to him will be done. When is the question.
  
  I like the idea of community events though, what do you have in mind?

  we need "Titles" that are rated at how much we post, A promotion type deal. That would be awesome.
  The idea might add to the "fun" of post, which in turn would hopefully draw more peeps to the forums.

  Gentlefurs: we have post counts under the avatar pic. We shouldn't give awards to furrs who just yap endlessly; only the carefully considered logically presented ones. Ads for stuff outside FN hurt us by diverting attention, it's ADD. Use text-only to ad the stuff the poster did, a quick index, less than a Tweet.

  Um...contests? I know I'd love to get into contests about poetry or short stories or art, etc. and other people probably would too. Maybe riddles too, like post a riddle and everyone posts answers then a week later the answer is posted and a new riddle is put up...  I'm just trying to think about what would get people to come back >.< Not just looks, cuz I don't care if it looks bland so long as conversation is good.
  
  But signatures. Yush.  And as far as the forum look goes...maybe tables?  Like a post can be in a special, pretty box of it's own.  >.> I dunno really.  I'm just tryin' to help everyone out here, but kinda feel like I'm not getting the full jist of this and failing...epically. >.> muuurrrrr...

  the old forums and profiles on the old furnation before the horrible ning creation were fun and easy to navigate and personalize. we had a large active group most of which I'm still friends of. just not on this site.
