  I'm kinda in the military, I don't see a change on base, I don't interact with the soldiers to much so I cant tell. A certain kind of pirate, with long days at sea.

  I just returned from combat in Afghanistan with the 1141'st Combat Engineers. I can tell you that most soldiers really really don't care about gays in the military but the ones who it does bother most are willing to leave the military over it.

  Bravery and sexual preferance shouldn't be an issue, this is getting out of hand and borderline retarded as a straight man there should be no divide between who can serve and who can't if you want to be Gay,Bi,Straight,Shemale,Herm or Cross dresser who gives a flying fuck these people have more balls than I let them serve their country.

  The qualities of a great leader are to accept all members of your squad, platoon, company, etc with as much respect as they treat you. If a leader wastes their hate on a member of their own community/country how could anyone straight or not hope for them to have enough hate left for the one thing that needs to be hated, the enemy. The qualities of leadership are taught in the earliest stages of the military and is even taught in the first LET level of a high school JROTC unit.

  I actually did apply to be in the Marines. In the three weeks I was "stationed" (Training lol), almost everyone in the unit knew I was gay and NOBODY cared.  I don't think the morale arguement has any base in fact.

  Gays have things to fight for too. Their sexuality is erellivant since when did being gay make it impossable to fight for you're country?

  But seriously, I don't see how this should even be a discussion, ANY person wanting to be part of the military should have the right to do so, and anyone else saying otherwise should be ashamed. To even reject someone willing to fight and die for their country is just painful to see.

  As far as I'm concerned, they can stay at home. I'm not saying that I against gays altogether. I just think they don't belong in the millitary. Some of my best friends died because of them. Including the love of my life.

  My partner is in the Military, as are many members of my Immediate family. I would hate to think they would die because the person fighting next to them was Gay. I used to be in a Gay relationship, I hope I am not putting the guy I intend to marry at risk by just being with him.

  My bride-to-be was killed by a sniper bullet because a gay procrastonated, and wouldn't shoot. Likewise with other friends that I've lost.

  Most likly both. Though most poor soldiers don't procrastinate when the see a sniper.

  Sorry to barge in here but that is such horse@#$%. Soldiers don't "hesitate" because or their sexual orientation. They do because they're morally conflicted with killing. Any other reasoning beyond that is just mindless justification for someones lack of understanding. I'll leave my soapbox now.

  I didn't mean to belittle who or what he was! But blaming everyone in sight for one persons shortcoming is ludicrus. Everyone else doesn't deserve the blame for one persons actions. I have a number of family members past and present in the military some didn't come home either.

  If someone wants to serve their country, by all means let them. Life is short, and in this world courage is short. So for someone to discriminate based on sexual orientation is just fubar. If they can pass the tests any soldier or warrior needs to exist in those environments then there is no reason they should be disallowed.

  Honestly, the whole thing with gays is overrated. They're paid way, way, waaaaay too much attention to. Get over it, people. Their different. Then again, if a black person is murdered by a white person, the left has a seizure of rage so... Anyway, the DADT rule should be reinstated becuase it really doesn't matter. Are they gonna throw a hissy fit when I join the Marines as an Asexual? Doubt it. It's just because people are consciously worried that someone will be staring at their butt...

  Some americans care, and some don't but there ARE good reasons for both sides, let me assure you it has nothing to do with them being american. Americans are just very careful as sometimes what is defined as a right and a privlege is not always very clear. Do I think they have the right to fight. Of course I do. and I am american. I don't care who's in the armed forces. Though some people do. Which their opinions deserve the same respect you want your opinions to have.
